40 Days Topic Fall 2026: The Mind & Consciousness
What is mind?
Yoga views the mind as a tool for practice to experience different levels of consciousness. However, if we have not received any instructions or guidelines on how to relate or utilize our mind, we often underestimate its power and potential. Furthermore, misunderstanding the mind often results in being limited by the habits and biases that exist in the unconscious and subconscious aspects of the mind.
What is consciousness?
Mystics have described consciousness as a unified field in which all of existence is embedded. Various sages have stated that each of us has the ability to experience this unified field by refining the mind and body to perceive the subtle nature of consciousness. During this series, we will examine the various conceptions of consciousness throughout yoga’s evolution and apply practical techniques to integrate and enhance our ability to live more conscious lives guided by discerning awareness.
What? 40 Days: The Mind & Consciousness is a seven week program which will establish parameters to guide students to establish a daily practice to meet their individual needs. This program acts as a supportive container to create new practices and eradicate persistent habits to live in greater harmony with ourselves, others, and our environment.
How? This program will offer seven weekly meetings. The aim will be for each student to commit to a daily practice which aligns with their individual needs and circumstances. There will be weekly handouts and journal prompts for continued self-study and contemplation.
Why? We can establish ourselves in a state of optimal health and well-being and live a purposeful life, fused with abiding joy and awareness. However, this requires that we first identify the choices and ways in which we impede this possibility. Secondly, we need to establish practices which support us to establish positive health physically, energetically, psycho-emotionally, socially, and spiritually. This all requires effort and can result in meeting ourselves in hard places. A supportive community is a tremendous aid in this process.
Who? This program is for anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Yoga philosophy and integrating it into their lives. It is also a supportive format for yoga teachers wanting to deepen their understanding of yoga philosophy. This program does require commitment from the participants.
